Bare Metal vs. Linux

Subject: Bare Metal vs. Linux

My objective, I think, is bare metal. From my past experience, the s390 toolchain itself will only recognize a linux target host. How does the choice of bare metal vs. Linux effect the configuration of the toolchain by crosstool-ng?
