Building static cross compilers

Is this straight forward with the scripts? It seems to me that we are a point that many people are running older Linux workstations but require newer GCC cross compilers for development. I fall into that category. When I try to use other precompiled packages they fail due to missing libraries. The best solution would be to provide the host cross compiler tools, statically linked.

Suggestions?
