I haven't seen this myself, but there are two things I can think of that might be the cause of your problems. One is mix-ups between whether C symbols have a "_" prefix or not, and the other is with your linker script. In my setup (in which I have my own startup module rather than crt0, and my own variant linker script), __INIT_SECTION__ and similar symbols are defined in the linker script.
