I'm fairly sure it's just for a convenience: oh, we've got to build target-libio and target-libstdc++, and we've got the libiberty source because the compiler itself uses it, so why don't we just be helpful and build target-libiberty too..... alas it turns out not to be such a good idea. >I'm currently trying out WOlfgang's idea of adding '--with-newlib' to >the configure. If that fails(which I'll report either way), I'll move >on to trying to hacking in a null libiberty.a as you suggest. I'd really recommend trying the softlink thing too. >I'd have kinda thought that someone would have stumbled across this in >the past, or perhaps all the 68k programmers are sticking with c >instead of c++ :-) Well m68k-elf is kinda new isn't it? There's a lot of m68k-coff around but elf tends to be associated with modern 32bit systems with dynamic linking and so forth. It may well be the case that it was never or hardly ever tried before.
