cross gcc-2.8.1 build problem

Thanks to all who answered my question yesterday. 
I switched to gcc-2.8.1 today, and began the whole process again. 

host=i386-pc-bsdi3.1
target=m68k-coff
./configure --host=$host --target=$target --with-gnu-as --with-gnu-ld -v
make all install

This is the error message that I received : 

as: Flag option -0 has already been seen!
libgcc1.S:301:Unknown pseudo-op:  '.proc'
*** Error code 1

Stop.

Has anybody experienced such errors? How would I fix that?
