The mirror indicates that some people find a git mirror useful; it doesn't 
indicate any consensus about a migration of the master repository.  (At 
one point GCC had both git and hg mirrors.)  There probably *is* a 
consensus for the rough idea of migrating to git if someone does all the 
work in a sufficiently satisfactory way, but not on the details - and this 
is probably more controversial for GDB than for binutils; GDB may well 
have more disagreement about the choice of git.
