Having learned x86 assembly the Intel way and having tries to use gas and gdb in this mode I found various problems, which without changing the current model this patch tries to fix. Neverless there remain many broken things. These would, however, require significantly changing the current way instruction operands are described and matched, which presumably would require at least some discussion to come to a model acceptable to everyone (and especially, to make sure AT&T, which I'm still not too familiar with, doesn't get broken).
