Oh. It seems Graydon was trying to solve the same problem remedied by
a patch of yours from earlier this month:

* dep-in.sed: Cope with absolute paths.
* Makefile.am (dep.sed): Subst TOPDIR.
Run "make dep-am".
* Makefile.in: Regenerate.
