H8300-hms Bit-ops dont relax

Hi binutil gurus,

I have been using the gnu-h8300-hms tool set since the beginning of this
year and one
"feature" that I have noticed is that the linker will relax most
addressess to a shorter
form. BUT not bit operations eg bset, bclr.

The shorter addressing forms are supported in gas by appending :16 :8 to
the address
location. How do I get the relax option to work with the C compiler
generated bit opcodes?
