How about the following: The next autoconf version will contain some
code that at the end of each ./configure run will connect to a central
server and report statistics about which autoconf macro was called
with which parameters. This way we can empirically determine what
information about the system is requested the most often and include
the top five into the triplet, too.

Of course we'd have to take precautions against people cheating, or we
might end of with having the result of AC_F77_LIBRARY_LDFLAGS coded
into the triplet.

Just on GNU/Linux of course. :-)
