Maybe a nice "little" task to investigate is the catch syscall support.
That might give someone a "simple" entry into the gdb catch mechanism.
(little and simple in quotes, since I didn't actually investigate myself
much)
There even already was a prototype implementation, but the submitter
seems to have disappeared (at least that was the impression I got from
irc, where this feature was discussed a couple of times - people really
seem to like to have this functionality), so it was never finished and
properly submitted. So someone will have to write it from scratch again.
